York Region Sewer By-Law Enforcement Update

Attention York Region

The Regional Municipality of York is implementing a mandatory Discharger Information Report (DIRs) for industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) wastewater dischargers. The DIR is used by enforcement officers to gain a better understanding of sewer by-law compliance within York Region.

York Region includes:

  • Aurora
  • East Gwillimbury
  • Georgina
  • King
  • Markham
  • Newmarket
  • Richmond Hill
  • Vaughan
  • Whitchurch- Stouffville

You are receiving this enforcement update to help keep your facility in compliance with sewer discharge requirements in York Region.

Recently, certain Pinchin clients with operations in York Region have been approached by by-law enforcement officers requesting that facilities file DIRs. These reports must be submitted by facilities discharging to sanitary sewers in accordance with York Region By-Law 2011-56 and the 2014-23 amendment and requires detailed information such as facility address, operating hours, current waste management practices and wastewater characteristics.

DIRs must be submitted initially when a facility commences operations and thereafter, within 30 days of any major process changes that may affect sewer discharges.

Pinchin can assist with:
