Pinchin Ltd. celebrated the new year by merging with our sister company Pinchin LeBlanc Environmental on January 1st, 2019, thus introducing several exciting changes that will steer our united firm toward a bright future. One of our most exciting changes was the appointment of Scott McCarthy as our national Chief Operating Officer (COO), a 25-year Pinchin veteran who has served as President of Pinchin Leblanc Environmental since 2011.
Scott has shown himself to be a passionate and exceptional geoscientist since he entered the field in 1991. He is a registered Professional Geoscientist in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and has served as both Vice President (2012 – 2013) and President (2014) of the Geoscientists Nova Scotia Association. He was the founding Chair of the Association’s Environment Committee and has been elected as a Fellow of Geoscientists Canada.
From his office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Scott led project teams in the procurement, administration, and management of environmental projects including site assessment and remediation, hazardous materials, air and water quality. He specializes in the management of due diligence exercises undertaken specifically for property transactions and financing. He has developed comprehensive environmental programs for a diverse set of clients, notably for two major mine sites in order to assist with permitting, provide oversight of air and water emissions, and to establish discharge monitoring programs. With over 300 successful projects completed in the last few years alone, Scott is famed for working tirelessly for the betterment of Pinchin and his loyal clients.
Having been a part of the Pinchin family since 1991, Scott was also heavily involved in the company’s expansion in the Atlantic region. He oversaw the establishment of new offices – specifically the Saint John, New Brunswick location in 1993 and the Labrador City location in 2004 – as well as the development of new services. He is a thought leader and role model for the business, possessing a working knowledge of all our practices and providing mentorship to those around him.
Scott and his family live in Cow Bay, a beautiful ocean-side community just outside of Dartmouth. An outdoorsman at heart, Scott regularly joins his friends to surf in the brisk Atlantic waves throughout the year. Sometimes his son joins him, other times his daughter. When they are not riding waves, they spend their free time mountain biking and snowboarding. Scott’s love of the ocean is what drew him to Halifax, and there is no place he would rather work and raise a family.
As Pinchin Ltd.’s new Chief Operating Officer, Scott will adopt a national leadership role, seeing to the day-to-day administration and operation of the business. He will be a key influence in strategic planning for the future and looks forward to establishing initiatives that will expand our services and presence throughout Canada.
